The Praying Mantis comfortably accommodates up to 4 people and a maximum of 6 people.

6-hour trips of 1-4 people: $480

8-hour trips of 1-4 people: $580

Each additional person over 4: $100 each

How to Book Your Trip

To book your trip, call us at our office at (315) 387-1000 or mobile phone at (203) 912-9915. You can also send an email to mantisfishing@yahoo.com or fill out our contact form. Please specify your desired date(s), morning vs. afternoon, and the number of people in your party.

A $150 deposit via check is required to secure your booking, and the remaining balance is due upon arrival via cash or check. Please make checks payable to Captain Rich Nau and mail your deposit to: 270 Ouderkirk Rd, Pulaski, NY 13142.

What times of the year does Prantis Mantis Sportfishing operate?
The Praying Mantis operates from April 1 to September 30.

What if we want to book a trip for more than 6 people?
Multiple boats are available! We often accommodate larger groups by partnering with other sportfishing charters in the area.

What times of the day are the trips?
We provide both morning and afternoon 6-hour and 8-hour trips. Morning trips tend to leave the dock between 4:45 and 6:00 am, depending on seasonal daylight hours. Afternoon trips leave the dock between 1:00 and 2:00 pm.

When is the best time to fish for what?
April to May is the best time for Brown Trout, some Rainbow Trout and Lake Trout. May, June and early July is best for Brown Trout, Lake Trout and some Salmon. Mid-June through July is good for Small Mouth Bass, while July, August and September are great for Brown Trout, Salmon and Steelhead. Visit our What's Biting When page for more info.

Do I need a fishing license?
Yes, a valid NY state fishing license is required and may be purchased online, via phone or at an issuing agent location. The fees are inexpensive and reduced fees are available for U.S. active duty military, veterans, seniors over 70, and non-resident college students attending a NY State university full time.

How do I book a trip?

How far in advance should I book my trip?
We recommend that you book as early as possible to secure your preferred date and time. Weekends especially book up quickly. We also accept advanced bookings for the next year’s fishing season.

What is your cancellation policy?
You can cancel or change your booking free of charge up to 30 days before the trip date.

What happens if there is bad weather?
Your safety is our utmost concern. Therefore, Captain Rich Nau reserves the right to cancel any trip due to bad weather and lake conditions. Should a trip be canceled, we will return your deposit or rebook your trip.

What should I bring?
First and foremost, each angler must bring a valid NY state fishing license with them on the trip. In addition, we recommend that you bring the following aboard:
  • Sunglasses (polarized are best)
  • Sunscreen
  • Food and beverages (alcohol is permitted; cans are preferred)
  • Cooler for your catch
  • Light rain coat
  • Camera
  • Motion sickness pills (if needed)
The Praying Mantis has ZERO tolerance for illegal drugs.
